Deployment - Kirby Farm (Armidale)

Google Earth - Kirby Farm (Armidale)

Kirby Farm is a commercial farm and research station owned by the University of New England (UNE) in Armidale, New South Wales. The Australian Centre for Broadband Innovation (ACBI) is supporting a collaborative project between CSIRO and UNE to develop a technology demonstrator to showcase the benefits of broadband connectivity for agriculture and rural communities.

A wireless sensor network for monitoring of soil conditions has been developed and deployed as part of the project (see below). 100 wireless monitoring stations each sample soil moisture, soil temperature, soil electrical conductivity, and air temperature every 5 minutes. A smaller number of other sensors, such as weather stations and light sensors, are also deployed across the farm.
